Post match reaction from The Rec.

After the loss to Bath A at the Rec in the opening A league game of the season, we spoke to debutant Nathan Hughes, who enjoyed a strong game, and head coach Chris Lloyd.

Hughes: “I was delighted to make my first appearance. It was a good first blow out as I haven’t played in quite a while. The body held up pretty well before I got tight late on but it’s great to finally get out there for the Club. I enjoy carrying the ball and I got a few chances to do that tonight. It was a tough game. We didn’t have much time together and we were defending for quite a long time. Everyone will have learned from it. For me it’s about getting involved in these games now and playing well and keep trying to push to play in the first side.”

Chris Lloyd: “The lads have talked intelligently after the game in the dressing room about where we came up short and they will take a lot from tonight. We had a lot of debutants for the Club tonight and a lot of those experienced guys I was pleased with. The leadership they gave to the youngsters and that was a real positive. For our young guys games like this gives them a benchmark. The likes of Tom Howe, Liam O’Neill and Alex Harrison will enjoy playing against top players and it allows them to see what they need to do. It’s a chance to play in a competition which tests them. Bath played very well tonight and next week we go down to Exeter for another big challenge. We will go down there positively and we will do a bit more together this week.”
