On Friday 10th May we were delighted to welcome 81 tourists from Argentinian side Neuquen Rugby Club at our training ground in West London. Neuquen Rugby Club, who have recently been promoted into the top Argentinian league, are touring England, Wales and Ireland to prepare for their first foray into the top league in their country.

Our coaches delivered a 90-minute CoacHclass session for 50 players that focused on the following areas of play;

  • Tackle situation contest - skills before, during and after contact
  • Defensive organisation
  • Maintaining continuity of play inside opposition territory

After the coaching session, the team's coaches led a team run ahead of their friendly fixtures against Romford & Gidea Park RFC the following day. London Wasps & England second row Tom Palmer and London Wasps & Italy Centre Andrea Masi joined the tour party to present a signed London Wasps shirt and have photographs taken with the players, before each player was given a BRITA Fill & Go bottle as part of our BRITA-sponsored CoacHclass Programme.

After their visit to London Wasps, the tour party went to Twickenham Stadium, Romford & Gidea Park RFC on 11th May and the Aviva Premiership Rugby semi-final at Saracens on 12th May. The group then head to Cardiff and then onto Dublin.

Ben Smiley told wasps.co.uk: "We were delighted to be able to kick Neuquen Rugby Club's tour off in style. The attitude of the players, their coaches and supporters was outstanding, and all three coaches thoroughly enjoyed coaching the lads, and hope that each player was able to take something away from the session. We tried to make their visit to London Wasps as memorable as possible with visits by Tom (Palmer) and Andrea (Masi), before organising photographs with the trophies we have won during the last ten years. The tour party was a credit to Argentinian rugby and we hope to welcome them back to the UK in the future."

We would like to wish Neuquen Rugby Club all the best for the remainder of their tour, and we look forward to hearing of their on and off field successes when they return to Argentina.
