Bell wants to end the season on a high

Wasps centre Chris Bell is looking forward to playing his old side Sale Sharks on Saturday in the final game of the season.

Bell missed out on the away fixture against his former team last season due to injury but believes that both sides will be desperate to end on a high.

“It will be strange to play them at a new stadium because I knew Edgeley Park so well. I have already spoken to some of my mates from Sale this week and I will catch up with them after the game because there won’t be too many niceties during it. Both teams will want to end the season in a strong performance and with a win.”

Wasps go into the game knowing that whatever happens they cannot finish higher or lower than eighth in the table and Bell believes that though nothing positional is riding on it, it should be a fine game of rugby.

“We like to throw it around anyway regardless of what is or isn’t riding on a game! We need to win the game and that’s how we are looking at it. There may be some guys playing their last games for Wasps as well and they will be desperate to go out on a high. We have been disappointed with how the season has ended for us. We have played some very good teams and we have not been accurate enough.”

“After 22 rounds if you finish eighth then you have to take stock of the fact that you are the eighth best team in the league. We want to be better next year and we know we can be. It’s probably a reality check for some people given we were in fourth at one point but that’s where we are and we need to go and build on it.”

Having enjoyed a fine start to his career at Wasps last year, Bell was then forced to watch most of the season from the sidelines after a tough Achilles injury, but with 25 appearances under his belt this season, is loving life in Black and Gold.

“I am really enjoying my rugby this season. Injuries are an occupational hazard in this game so last year was frustrating but playing so often this season has been brilliant for me. I am glad to be back in the thick of it though I know I have a lot of improving to do. My school report cards always said ‘could do better’ so I want to get better and better for Wasps. We have some great players here and we have signed some very good players so far for next season so there’s lots to be excited about”.
