Having been unfortunate to spend a large part of the season on the sidelines through injury this year, Du Plessis has put that extra time to good use, contributing to a number of local and national projects, going above and beyond the call of duty, supporting a variety of causes.
That contribution has been recognised this week with his nomination for the Aviva Community Player of the Season award, the winner of which will be awarded at Premiership Rugby’s End of Season Awards Dinner on 9 May at the London Hilton, Park Lane.
Du Plessis is amongst five players on the shortlist.
London Wasps Community Rugby Manager Dave Larham said "Tinus really has been the epitome of professionalism and has shown a real understanding of how important it is for our players to engage with our community in their environment. Despite facing the disappointment of a lengthy period of injury, he has continued to make a positive impact in our community. He has been prepared to support our programmes, meet our people and continues to impress us all with an undoubted loyalty to London Wasps, our supporters and everyone involved in making the club a success off the pitch."
Premiership Rugby's Head of Community, Wayne Morris said "We see 600 role models from our clubs operating every season and these five have produced an exceptional season to make it on to this shortlist."
"We are very proud of our Community Programme and of the efforts from these five players. Picking the winner will be very difficult as they have all produced compelling cases to win."
