Post Match Reaction: Dai Young

Dai Young gives his view following the loss to Exeter.

“Our form in the last few weeks has been very frustrating. We had a slow start to the season and then we had a real purple patch in the middle before falling away at the end. That is something we need to look at when the dust settles. Today was particularly disappointing. We fell off a lot of tackles and a lot of senior players fell off tackles, which you don’t expect them to, but as disappointing as today is it is probably a realistic wake up call for a lot of people as to where we are.”

“When the season started our aim was to improve on last year, and to get to the end of the season without looking over our shoulder. We have achieved both of those things and we have moved forward and are a better team than we were a year ago but I would be lying if I didn’t say we are still some way off where we can get to. We have a lot of work to do to get near the top four sides again in England, let alone in Europe and if we had sneaked into Europe I have to put my hand up and say I would be a bit concerned because I don’t think we are ready. Next season we have brought some quality in to add to the squad. The young players will have a bit more experience and next season we unashamedly will say that top the six is our aim.”

“We would like to add a few more players to the squad to add to those who are coming in but we have missed out on one or two players purely because our financial situation wasn’t sorted out earlier in the year when we were trying to sign players. It is sorted out now and we are really pleased with Derek (Richardson) being on board. He will be excellent for us but that situation wasn’t sorted out till recently so we were a bit late on one or two players who had other options and we were one. We will keep on looking to sign strength in certain areas but we are looking at very late part of the year, and even if we don’t bring more in I certainly believe we will be better again next season and will keep on improving.”
