Post match reaction: Dai Young

After watching his side come out on the right side of a one point game at the Stoop, Dai Young made special mention of his team’s commitment and workrate in defence.

“To be realistic about it, that was a game that could have gone either way. We probably deserved it to go our way after the first game, because if you look back at it, they probably had a little bit of the rub of the green to win that one, and I think that we did tonight so it pretty much evens itself out.”

“We had a really good start but to be fair, I thought that over the game Quins had the majority of possession. The penalty count against us was huge. I think it was something like 21 penalties against us, which didn’t help us at all considering we pride ourselves on our discipline. We didn’t have the ball and we spent a lot of time defending. We showed some real flashes in attack but the pleasing thing was the work rate and commitment we showed in defence.”

“The real pleasing thing for me today was the spirit we showed to come away with that win. We were under pressure for long periods in both halves and I thought that we showed real character.”

“Last season was just about survival. This season we have made some real strides forward. We have gained a bit of momentum and belief from some of our home results and we knew that we had to back that up with some wins away from home, and there aren’t many tougher or harder places to come than this.”

“There are still lots of things that could have lost us the game tonight. There are still lots of things that we have to keep working on, but I don’t think that anybody would begrudge us for our win here today considering where we have come from since last season.”
