Ahead of our Spring CoacHclass Programme, the CoacHclass Team set off on the first leg of a series of roadshows to promote the CoacHclass Programme and London Wasps. CoacHclass Programme Officer Ryan Hunt and Community Rugby Coach Ian Isham spent the day travelling around the Sittingbourne area in Kent to visit local schools and deliver bespoke assemblies and coaching sessions.
The first stop on the Roadshow was Borden Grammar School, where over 70 boys interested in rugby were invited to join an assembly to talk about London Wasps, the CoacHclass Programme and have a bit of fun with a game of Wasps-related Heads and Tails to win prizes.
Next up was Grove Park Primary School where the whole school had an active assembly and fun games to win London Wasps stationary sets. Ryan then visited Milton Court Primary School, while Ian travelled to the Rainham area to The Howards School. The Year 6 students at Milton Court took part in an introduction to Tag Rugby, which many of them had not experienced, whilst the Year 7 and Year 8 pupils at The Howards School enjoyed an active skills sessions. The last school visit was The Abbey School in Faversham, where Ryan and Ian led an After-School Club based on quick catching and passing for 25 Year 7 and Year 8 pupils.
The evening part of the Roadshow provided a floodlit session at Sittingbourne RUFC for the club's Under 13s. During the 90-minute session, Ryan and Ian coached the 24 young players to develop their ability to pass the ball into space and adjust their running lines to create space.
We would like to thank all of the schools, Sittingbourne RUFC and Colin Budgen for making the day such a huge success.
The London Wasps CoacHclass Programme will be at Sittingbourne RFC in the Spring Half-Term on the 21st and 22nd February. For details please click here.
