On Sunday 4th November our Independent Schools Officer David Choules went to help select the top players in the Under 11s and Under 13s from 39 Independent schools over the South-East of England. The regional festival is held every year with more schools than ever sending children to be a part of the programme; demonstrating that schools are looking to develop and showcase their top players. The event was held at the Oratory School with the following schools in attendance:
Abingdon Prep | Ashfold | Beacon | Beechwood Park | Belmont | Caldicott | Chesham Prep | Colet Court | Cothill House | Crossfields | Danes Hill | Davenies | Devonshire House | Donhead | Dorset House | Dulwich | Dulwich Prep | Dragona | Lambrook | Ludgrove | Gayhurst | Hawthorns | Moulsford | Northcote Lodge | Newland House | OPS | Oratory St. Philips House | Oratory Prep | Rokeby | Shrewsbury House | St Andrews | St Benedict’s | St.Christopher's | St John's Beaumont | St John's Northwood | St. Pirans | Thomas' Battersea | Thomas' Clapham | West Hill Park |
It was a challenging day out for the children, spectators and coaches alike with the adverse weather conditions causing the Under 11s to end earlier than planned. The boys braved the weather by still producing some excellent rugby throughout the trial matches; James Skea, Chairman of the Independent Schools Lambs Rugby, summed this up by saying, "Today was a great success despite the weather and the competition was at such a high standard today, I am glad I am not having to select a team from the boys today."
