During this half-term, we have been delivering elements of the Aviva Premiership Rugby Schools Programme in the South Bucks District, as a part of the London Wasps Community Schools Programme.
What is the Aviva Premiership Rugby Schools Programme?
Aviva Premiership Rugby's key legacy project, the Aviva Schools Programme, is now in its third season. The Programme, which comes with a £2m investment from Aviva, is an initiative which introduces more than 39,000 young people each season to rugby union through tag rugby, creating a vibrant and effective rugby legacy in England. The scheme targets new-to-rugby, non-traditional rugby schools. It provides five weeks of coaching and teacher training, grassroots club links, plus resources for the school to continue to play rugby in the future
During Half-Term One, we have delivered the Aviva Premiership Rugby Schools Programme in the following schools: | Iver Heath Junior School, Slough | Lent Rise Combined School, Burnham | St Luke's CE Primary School, Maidenhead | St Mary's CE Primary School, Amersham |
Community Rugby Coach Ben Smiley told wasps.co.uk, "All the children have been so enthusiastic throughout the coaching and I know the rest of the team had a great time coaching them. It's so good to see enthusiasm for rugby at such a young age and I hope most of them continue to play for years to come. There was definitely some talent on show!"
The London Wasps Community Schools Programme has spaces throughout this academic year. If you would like your school to get involved, please contact us here.
