London Wasps team to play Dragons

Despite six changes, Director of Rugby Dai Young has named a very strong squad to face Newport Gwent Dragons in the Amlin Challenge Cup this Saturday, KO 20:10

The London Wasps side to face Newport Gwent Dragons this weekend sees six changes to the team from last weekend, with three changes in the pack and three in the backline.

Up front, Fabio Staibano replaces the injured Simon McIntyre, while Ashley Johnson and Jonathan Poff both start in the back row in place of James Haskell and Tom Palmer, who both picked up knocks last weekend, with Joe Launchbury moving to lock.

In the backs, Nick Robinson gets a start at 10, with Stephen Jones moving to the bench. Lee Thomas comes into the centres, replacing Andrea Masi who has picked up a calf strain, while Jack Wallace starts on the wing in the place of Christian Wade who is rested after playing six games back-to-back.

Both Sam Jones and Lewis Thiede get spots on the bench.

Young said that the next couple of games provide a good opportunity for his side to pick up some momentum and for certain players to make the shirt their own.

“Newport are a good honest side and if we are not 100 percent up for the challenge they will happily punish us. After our win last week we are looking to improve our performance and we will then hopefully get a couple of wins under our belt. In a couple of positions at this moment in time we have more than one player vying for the starting shirt and the next couple of weeks provide a good opportunity for someone to stick their hand up and let me know that they are number one.”
