Now in it's third year, the Aviva Premiership Rugby Schools Programme represents a significant investment (£2 million) by Aviva into the grassroots level of the game. Resources will go towards supporting over 1,200 teachers in 650 schools across the country whilst also providing all the kit necessary to play tag rugby.
Aligned to the national curriculum and PE syllabus and designed to unearth the next generation of rugby stars. The number of children who will have taken part in the scheme, delivered by the 12 Aviva Premiership Rugby clubs, by the end of this season is enough to fill Twickenham Stadium. The Aviva Premiership Rugby Schools Programme is aimed at Key Stage 2 pupils, with each Premiership Rugby club working with two classes at 50 schools. As the London Wasps Community Schools Programme began again for the new season, London Wasps Community Rugby Coach Ben Smiley told wasps.co.uk: “The Aviva Premiership Rugby Schools Programme is a fantastic programme that enables us to engage with new schools within our catchment area, and link them to some of our Community Partner Clubs through Tag Rugby festivals and transition days. With London Wasps strong start to the season, we hope that with the continued support of Aviva, there will be a glut of new rugby players and supporters ready to join local Rugby Clubs, and support London Wasps at Adams Park Stadium."
