Richard Birkett at the Windsor RFC Summer CoacHclass
Our 2012 Summer CoacHclass Programme once again included a visit to Windsor RFC building on from the huge success of our 2011 event. Players aged 6yrs to 16yrs enjoyed 3 days of skills coaching and game understanding in the shadows of Windsor Castle at Home Park. The London Wasps CoacHclass Team were there from Monday 20th to Wednesday 22nd August with ball handling, running lines, tackling, rucking, defence all being covered through game sense coaching. On the second day all of the participants were treated to a visit from London Wasps second row Richard Birkett. After saying "hello" to the U7s to U12s age groups, Birkett spent a few minutes with the U13s to U16s talking about goal setting and dealing with set backs; part of the CoacHclass Academy presentation on '7 Healthy Habits'.
We would like to stay "thank you" to Windsor RFC for all their support with this CoacHclass event.
The next stop of our Summer programme was Abingdon RFC on 28th and 29th August. Over 50 young players joined London Wasps for an enjoyable 2 days of rugby and experience the variety of the British summer weather! During the periods of sunshine, the children were coached to improve their core skills and game understanding; while during the torrential rain, the participants were entertained with a number of team building, leadership and fun indoor activities. After a visit from our Academy prop and England Under 20's representative, Alec Hepburn, the
course finished off with an awards ceremony to celebrate the Player of the CoacHclass and Most Improved Player of the CoacHclass at each age-group.
We would like to stay "thank you" to Abingdon RFC Mini & Youth for all their support with this CoacHclass event.
The final stop of our Summer CoacHclass Programme on Thursday 30th and Friday 31st August was the London Wasps Training Ground in West London; the home of Wasps FC. Our bespoke "Twyford to Twickenham" pre-season event combined a 2-Day CoacHclass with both the London Double Header Festival of Rugby Tag Festival and our Match Day CoacHclass. London Wasps players Tim Payne, Rhys Thomas and Will Taylor visited the CoacHclass to sign autographs, join the players for photographs and provide inspiration through Q & As.
Over 50 children enjoyed 2 days of coaching, before taking part in either our Match Day CoacHclass or the London Double Header Festival of Rugby that finished at Twickenham Stadium to watch London Wasps narrowly edged out in a 10-try epic v Harlequins.
We would like to stay "thank you" to Wasps FC for all their support with this CoacHclass event.
