Young: Next two weeks are massive

London Wasps Director of Rugby Dai Young believes his side face two of the most important weeks of their season as they look to back up the recent Aviva Premiership win over London Irish.

Young believes that Wasps simply must add to their points tally to increase or at the very least maintain the eight point gap between themselves and Newcastle.

Wasps won their last outing over London Irish but face tough games in the coming weeks with a trip to Northampton and a clash against another in-form side Gloucester.

Young said: “The win over London Irish was a very good way to go into a break and we gave all of the players and staff a week off to recharge the batteries both mentally and physically. We are mindful going into the Northampton game that we haven’t had a game for two weeks so we’ve done plenty of contact and conditioning work at quite a high intensity.”

With the games against Northampton and Gloucester front of mind, there is also the matter of an Amlin Challenge Cup Quarter-Final over French power-house Biarritz on Easter Saturday but Young says that is of no concern just yet.

“Northampton and Gloucester are the only games in my thought process at the moment and that’s all any of us will be focusing on right now. We are looking at two extremely tough fixtures against two very good sides pushing or aiming to stay in the top four. Getting points from these games is a big challenge but I believe we need to come through these two fixtures having picked up some crucial points.”

With eight points separating themselves and bottom club Newcastle, Young says everyone is acutely aware of how delicately Wasps’ league position is balanced.

“We have to be honest and realistic and realise that one win hasn’t got us out of the woods yet in any way, shape or form. We need to show the determination and doggedness we showed in the London Irish win to get us over the line and get us some more important victories. “

London Wasps host Gloucester at Adams Park on Sunday April 1 (KO 15.00). To book a place call the London Wasps ticket hotline on 0844 225 2990 or by booking online here.
