John Hart will lead Wasps this season
Hart made his senior debut for the club in 2003 while still an Academy player and at the end of the 2010/11 season he had made 150 appearances for Wasps and had also captained the side through large parts of the year.
Director of Rugby Dai Young said: “John is Wasps through and through having been here his entire career and he’s had a big say off the field over the summer as we prepare for the new season. For me there were only two people in the running to be captain, John and Tom Rees and with Tom injured now the decision was an easy one. John has everyone’s respect among the players and the coaching staff and I’ve no doubt he’s the right man for the job.”
As well as captaining Wasps on occasion last year, Hart was also a stand-in captain back in the 2005/06 season in the absence of the injured Lawrence Dallaglio, when he led the side to their best ever start in the professional era.
Hart said: “I’m chuffed to be asked to lead the side this season. We’ve made some major progress over the summer with so many new players and new coaching staff and we are in a very positive place right now. Things seem to be heading in the right direction and I’m delighted to be named captain.”
Hart will lead the team this weekend in their final pre-season game against Benetton Treviso at Henley RFC, 2pm KO. Tickets are available at the gate.
