More than 150 Wasps supporters joined Serge Betsen last week to help him celebrate his Benefit Year at the fourth London Wasps Supporters Club “It’s Not Just a Question of Sport” evening. It was an England v France battle with LWSC President Dave Walder leading the English team of Josh Lewsey and Fraser Waters and Serge leading the French team of Olivier Azam and Ben Broster (who became French for the night!).
The highlight of the evening was definitely the Towersey Morris Dancers putting both teams through their paces – Serge took to this traditional English pastime scarily well and Dave’s look of totally concentration was a sight to behold!
Other golden moments included Josh arguing about the scoring (the French team were in the lead at the time!), Ben’s too rude to publish winning “What Happened Next” quote, Olivier’s wonderful command of English when coming up with a (losing but highly amusing) answer in the “To Tweet or Not to Tweet” round and Fraser arguing about everything with the compere, Paul Farris!
The French team won and Serge led a rendition of “La Marseillaise” with Olivier and the French supporters in the room joining in – Ben surprisingly didn’t seem to know the words!
The LWSC would like to thank Paul Farris Entertainment (www.paulfarris.tv) for putting on another superb event ably assisted by the audio visual company Hot AV. Also thanks should go to Simon, Sue and the team from Adams Park for all their help and hard work on the night. Thanks also to our very generous sponsors – Quantum Colour, Hazelvine, Grundon Waste Management Limited, Momentous Moving, Risborough Rugby Club and The Whiteleaf Cross Public House in Princes Risborough – and to the providers of raffle prizes – London Wasps, Bollinger, Hazelvine and the London Wasps Community Foundation.
The biggest thank you goes to the supporters who attended – their generosity means that over £2,000 was raised which will be split between Serge’s Benefit Year charities – Fight for Sight (www.fightforsight.org.uk) and the Serge Betsen Academy – and the London Wasps Community Foundation.
Look out for a full report (with lots of photos!) in the Supporters Club pages of the Sale programme on 6th March.
