London Wasps have this week added two more names to their long list of re-signing players, as Tom Varndell and Dan Ward-Smith commit to the Club for a further two seasons.

The duo, who joined the men in black and gold at the start of the 2009/10 season, follow in the footsteps of Serge Betsen, Richard Birkett, Ben Broster, Rob Webber, Tom Rees, Christian Wade, Dominic Waldouck, Joe Ward and Joe Worsley who have all extended their contracts with the Club this season.

Since his arrival in 2009, Tom Varndell has become a regular on the Wasps team sheets, securing 29 appearances in his debut season. Known for his try scoring ability and his continued presence in the top try-scorer Premiership tables, the winger scored an impressive 19 five pointers for Wasps in 2009/10 - six of those in his first three appearances. This season he has followed suit, scoring two tries in the opening two games of the Aviva Premiership. On the international stage, Varndell added a 2010 Churchill Cup to his list of accolades after a successful summer tour with England Saxons.

Dan Ward-Smith also made an impact in his first season with Wasps, playing 29 games and scoring four tries. His efforts for his new Club showcased his ability and versatility, featuring in both the back and second row, and he was soon knocking on England’s door – securing selection for the 2010 summer tour and a place in the Saxons squad for the 2010/11 season.

On the news, Director of Rugby Tony Hanks said, “We are really pleased to secure the services of these two quality players. Both Tom and Dan have bought into the Wasps way and established themselves as key members of the squad. Retention of key members is vital and we are excited about the squad we are building short and long term. Both families; Dan, Jamie and Brooke and Tom, Claire and Tao have settled in very well and we are pleased that they will continue to be a part of the Club long term.”
