Brighton RFC U12s drive off withLand Rover Cup

Read more about our U12s Festival; sponsored by Land Rover

We were delighted to host our U12s Land Rover Premiership Cup on Saturday 12th December 2009 at Maidenhead RFC, where Brighton RFC U12s retained their crown (after winning last year's U11s Cup) and remain unbeaten in our Land Rover Premiership Cup. The "Blues" won the Final against Stanford Le-Hope RFC by 5 tries to nil; and also boasted a defensive record of not conceding a single try in 5 games. Slough RFC were crowned Fair Play Award Winners after displaying superb teamship skills and discipline associated with our fantastic sport throughout their games.

This Festival saw us join forces with Land Rover and Premier Rugby Ltd to deliver the exciting new competition for teams in our Community. This season our Land Rover Premiership Cup Rugby Festivals for U12s teams and U11s teams have been split over two separate days with the winners from both events paraded at Twickenham at the exiting finale of the club season, Guinness Premiership Final’s day in May 2010. All our participants received a certificate, London Wasps medal and team photography opportunity from London Wasps players Tom Rees and Tom Lindsay. After leaving Maidenhead RFC our players and parents made their way to Adams Park to watch London Wasps versus Bayonne; where Festival Winners Brighton RFC U21s and Runners-Up Stanford Le-Hope RFC U12s were presented with their Cups by Dan Leo before forming our 'Tunnel of Honour' to welcome the Wasps and Bayonne players on to the pitch.

Community Rugby Manager Dave Larham told wasps.co.uk, "We received a tremendous level of interest in the Land Rover Premiership Cup; due to the high-profile sponsorship of Land Rover and associated benefits, and our Community Partner Clubs continuing to demonstrate their support for London Wasps. The Festival proved to be a flagship Match Day Event for our Community Team and it was great to see so many of our Community Partners on the pitches competing against each other; many of whom wouldn't normally meet due to geographical constraints. The weather was kind to us and gave all the players the chance to play rugby in a very good spirit. I would like to thank everyone involved for helping to make this such a worthwhile event; well done to Brighton RFC U12s - enjoy your day out at the Guinness Premiership Final."

Land Rover Premiership Cup winning coach Paul Morley from Brighton RFC was delighted, "It was a great day all round, with all of the information we needed in the build up to the event, and great organisation on the day. The pitches were fantastic and referees very efficient and on the ball. It was really good for us to play against teams from outside of our region and I know that the boys and their parents really enjoyed that element of the tournament. The London Wasps Community Team were, as ever, very welcoming and helpful, and having Tom Rees and Tom Lindsay along to support the event was a real bonus for the boys. We look forward to representing London Wasps at the Guinness Premiership Final, and hope the boys can support their favourite team in the main event that day."

Jo Mathews from Standford Le-Hope RFC U12s was proud of her team's performance, "We all had such a fantastic day, it was great for us to get the chance to play different clubs that are outside our normal fixtures. As you know we brought our whole squad, so for us to compete against some large clubs and make it through to the final was a really huge achievement and one that we are proud of. Our players were over the moon to then finish off the day by forming the "Tunnel of Honour" with the winners of the Land Rover Premiership Cup; Brighton RFC"
