On Sunday April 27th London Wasps second-row Matt Corker joined Community Sports Coach Ben Smiley to visit Worthing RFC's Mini's Festival. The Festival is one of the largest in the South East of England, and welcomed teams from Braintree RFC (Essex), Medway RFC (Kent), St Peter's RFC (Cardiff) and CSCE Luxembourg (Luxembourg); giving players in the U7s to U12s opportunities to compete against new opponents. More challenges were presented when the heavens opened, making the ball a lot harder to handle.

After walking round some of the pitches, and watching the U12s Finals, Matt Corker stayed around to assist with all of the presentations; prizes were available for the winners and runners-up from each age group in the Bowl, Plate and Cup competitions. The winners are listed at the bottom of the page

Festival organiser, Danny Flain emailed to say, "Can I once again thank you and Matt (Corker) for attending the Worthing A Festival and staying around presenting all the trophies and medals; it was very much appreciated."

Matt Corker told Wasps.co.uk, "It was fantastic to see that the format of the competition meant that all of the teams had the chance to play through the day. When I attended festivals as a junior, some teams went home at lunchtime, but the Worthing festival gave 1,500 young rugby players the chance to play against different teams and styles all day. It was a pleasure to present the awards at the end of the day."

Ed Wilcock, Chairman of Minis at Worthing RFC replied, "Can I pass on a big thanks to Matt Corker and Ben Smiley for attending the 35th Annual Worthing Minis Festival. Although the weather didn't hold out for the whole day, the wet and muddy players all enjoyed the tournament. It was a great honour to have Matt present the trophies and medals to the winners. I'm sure many of the players will remember the moment for years to come. It was a big weekend for the club as our seniors achieved their goal of promotion to National League 3 with the help of former London Wasp prop Will Green who as you know is working with our coaching team. Once again thanks to all in the London Wasps Community Team for all you do for Worthing Youth Rugby."

We would like to thank Worthing RFC Mini's chairman and partnership co-ordinator Ed Wilcock and John Herbert respectively for their support throughout the 2007/08 season, and would like to congratulate the whole club on their recent promotion to National League 3 South.
