COMMUNITY RUGBY COACH

Wasps invite grassroots rugby coaches to join our part-time team as a Community Rugby Coach (CRC).  This is an exciting time to join a world-renowned rugby club now based at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry.

Our Community Rugby Coaches (CRCs) will be focused on supporting the delivery of our grassroots rugby initiatives within the Warwickshire, Birmingham and Oxfordshire community on behalf of Wasps. The aim of the role is to provide high quality coaching to players in the Under 7s to Under 16s age groups through our community rugby programmes. Our programmes involve a strong focus on coaching Tag Rugby, Mini, Midi and 15-a-side; and potential involvement in Sevens Rugby.

Our CRCs will also have the opportunity play an active role in our “Coach The Coaches” programme by supporting teachers and other grassroots coaches to increase their knowledge of, and confidence to deliver, the game of rugby. This will involve building strong relationships within our local rugby clubs to help to strengthen their capacity and performance through the delivery of high quality coaching with targeted groups of players. This will be achieved through the provision of mentoring/support to voluntary club coaches and by identifying and training potential coaches.

Individual Requirements: You must also hold a minimum of RFU / 1st4Sport Level 2 coaching qualification and RFU-issued DBS Enhanced Disclosure Certificate, with an ELRA and first aid qualification as desirable. Wasps will provide a Certificate in Premiership Rugby Community Sport while each CRC will need to gain a First Aid qualification within six months of working with Wasps.

You will have a good understanding of the RFU Continuum including the variations for each age group and the 2015-2016 New Rules of Play.

You will also be able to communicate effectively and present a highly professional image when representing Wasps; establish positive working relationships with voluntary and professional staff in clubs and schools, and balance a determined application of the role with a sense of fun and enjoyment.

In addition you will possess a valid UK driving licence and have an understanding and commitment to equal opportunities in employment and sport, and an understanding of individual responsibility in complying with Health and Safety policies and arrangements.

Responsibilities: Our CRCs will deliver high quality coaching to groups, and in environments such as the ‘We Are Wasps Coachclass Programme’ (Premiership Rugby Camps) Rugby Camps, as directed by Wasps.

Our coaching philosophy, in line with the RFU Core Values, is “the use of relevant and enjoyable practices where players are involved in a climate that provides a high quality learning experience; leading to success, improved self-belief and fully empowered and unconsciously competent players.“

This will include the provision of specialist clinics/coaching courses with players/coaches utilising personal specialism/experience – e.g. front-row, lineout, back-attack, kicking etc

To succeed in this role, you must have experience of coaching Rugby Union to young people in a range of environments. You will also be committed and able to work weekend and evening hours to meet the needs of our programmes.
