Principles of Play CoacHclass
This CoacHclass is designed around the fundamental attacking theory used within rugby. The course will not only increase your core rugby skills but enable you to understand how to score points in rugby; improving your decision making skills as well as your tactical knowledge. Subjects that will be covered on the Principles of Play CoacHclass:

  • Gain possession - what can we do to ensure our team has possession? Concentrating on phase play after the set-piece and how to win the ball at the tackle area
  • Go Forward - What space is there on the pitch, can we attack it and how can we get the ball into the space
  • Support - How can we support the ball carrier to ensure that our attack has the maximum effect and allow us to continue to go forward
  • Continuity - phase play; recognising 'quick ball', 'slow ball', how can we recycle the ball and keep it alive to continue playing
  • Pressure - How can we put the defenders under pressure to ensure that we achieve the desired outcome?
  • Points - Can we put all of these elements together to allow us to keep the scoreboard ticking over?

Principles of Defence CoacHclass
This CoacHclass will provide you with a thorough understanding of all aspects of defence and how to use them to maximum effect. Develop your tackle techniques and learn how to defend as a team. Subjects that will be covered in the Principles of Defence CoacHclass:

  • Tackle techniques - develop your skills in the side-on tackle, front-on tackle and tackle from behind
  • Types of defence - gain understanding of the different defensive styles such as man-on-man, drift and blitz defences
  • Tactical defence - develop your knowledge of how to defend in certain situations such as at the breakdown, kick chase and how to exploit an opponent's weakness

Continuity CoacHclass - The Wasps Way
The Continuity CoacHclass will teach you the art of keeping hold of the ball and the ability to go forward. Subjects that will be covered during the Continuity CoacHclass - The Wasps Way:

  • Offloading - Develop your technique of offloading, drawing defenders towards you, creating space and moving the ball before, during and after contact
  • Rucking - Look at all aspects of fast rucking play, from the ball carrier and the supporting players to where to attack from a ruck

CoacHclass Academy
The London Wasps CoacHclass Academy is designed to take players to the next level of their rugby development. Building upon the hugely successful CoacHclass program; the CoacHclass Academy aimed at 14 - 17 year olds really will give them a full and professional Wasps experience. Using only the best of our Community Coaching Team you will work with coaches who have a minimal experience of working in the Schools of Rugby system. The majority of our coaches in the Academy will have experience in working with Premiership Academies and National representative sides.
Alongside the 16 ½ hours (three days) or 12 hours (two days) of top class coaching provided throughout the week, participants will receive informational sessions that will give them all of the knowledge they need to become an elite performer. These sessions will be based around nutrition and hydration, goal setting and motivation, game analysis, player progression and pathways and individual performance feedback. At the beginning of the Academy players will receive their Elite Player Development Pack which will contain all of the information that they will require for the course and will also prove useful in their own club/school environment.

Talented players on the CoacHclass Academy will be identified to our Academy Manager Rob Smith as part of our long term commitment to see CoacHclass players reach their dreams and play professional rugby. This process has already seen many of our talented players enter pathways that would not have been available to them otherwise. For all budding young professionals the London Wasps CoacHclass Academy is an experience not to be missed.
Due to the intensive nature of the CoacHclass Academy we are looking for players who are serious about taking their rugby to the next level, therefore those who attend must have a high level of desire and motivation.

  • Players will be grouped together according to their 2010 - 2011 Season age groups during our CoacHclasses
  • Our RFU-qualified & CRB Certificated coaches will work with their age-groups to improve individual core skills, unit skills and team skills
  • We work very hard to create an excellent player-centred learning environment to develop every player's core skills and game understanding
  • A First Aid & Welfare Officer will be present throughout every CoacHclass
  • A London Wasps Academy coach will also be in attendance throughout the course for our Academy Identification Programme
