Ashley Johnson

Born in Wynberg, South Africa, Ashley Johnson joined Wasps in the summer of 2012 from Super Rugby side the Free State Cheetahs, whom he had represented since 2006.

Ashley has had a huge impact since arriving from the Free State Cheetahs. He has made 25 appearances and scored three tries. His form during last season was also recognised as he was awarded Man of the Match three times against Worcester, Bath and Gloucester.

At the end of last season Ashley was also nominated for 'Supporters Player of the Season' and 'Players Player of the Season' which rounded off a brilliant first season for Ashley at London Wasps.

Johnson is the son of Archie Johnson, who played Prop for the Western Province League and the SA Federation team (SA Proteas) in the 80 and he followed in his father's footsteps and started out in the front row at school level, before moving to the backrow.

Johnson played for the Western Province Schools team before joining the Cheetahs where in his early years he was loaned to Griffons Rugby team to earn him more game time.

The dynamic back-rower has won three full Springbok caps. He was first called into the South Africa side in 2009 for a tour of the British Isles where he played in two uncapped games before winning three caps in the 2011 Tri Nations.
