Though still in his teens, Wasps Academy product Danny Cipriani broke into senior club rugby in a big way in 2006/07, picking up a Heineken Cup winners medal at the end of his first season at the top level.
A gifted footballer, he got his big break in January 2007 when he was picked at full back to face Worcester, his first Premiership start. Danny marked the occasion by collecting the Man of the Match award, and from there went from strength to strength, finishing the season by picking up a Churchill Cup winners medal with England Saxons, making selection to England's initial training squad for Rugby World Cup 2007 and picking up the Academy Player of the Year at the London Wasps End of Season Awards. Despite missing out on a place in the final England RWC 30, Danny has earned his place in Brian Ashton's 2008 England Six Nations squad, following some outstanding performances for Wasps this season.
Danny is one of the brightest talents in the Premiership by the timing of his 1XV debut - against Bristol in the Powergen Cup in December 2004, at the age of 17.The appearance made him the youngest player to take the pitch in a senior rugby game at the time.
Already a veteran of two World Championships, both with England U19, Danny started rugby at the age of 9 and joined Rosslyn Park U10s, where he played until U15s level.
On joining the Wasps Academy in 2003, Danny broke into the England age grade set up, and having completed his studies at Whitgift School, he joined the London Wasps Academy full time in the 2006/7 season.
Having made 21 appearances for the 1XV last season he credits the coaches and players at Wasps for helping him develop his strength and ability, especially recently departed fly half Alex King one of the biggest influences in his career, Danny says, admiring his ability to keep a cool head under pressure.
Away from rugby Danny's other sporting achievements include membership of the QPR Football Academy and playing cricket and squash at county level. He enjoys socializing with friends and listening to music, a particular fan of R&B and Hip Hop. He maintains his fitness through swimming and running as well as the training regime at the club and would also say he was a dab hand in the kitchen.
His aims for 2007/08 are set on securing honours with the club and picking up recognition with England on the international stage - and with the displays seen in 2007/08 so far, it is highly likely that his name will continue to be at the forefront of the rugby arena.
