World-renowned prop Phil Vickery joined Wasps in 2006 after 10 years with his former club Gloucester. After a series of injuries, many considered Vickery's move to Wasps as a gamble. However, since making his debut in black and gold against London Irish in 2006, he's been a great asset to the Club and has gone from strength to strength.
He was named joint vice captain last season, along with Serge Betsen, but was only able to lead the side twice before suffering a neck injury in October, against Racing Metro in the Amlin Challenge Cup.
He required major surgery, and was out of action for six months. After returning as a replacement in the win at Worcester, he came off the bench in the St George's Day Game against Bath to make his 50th appearance for Wasps. In his first start since his comeback, the Amlin Challenge Cup semi final against Cardiff Blues, he produced a magnificent performance against fellow Lion Gethin Jenkins.
Despite facing numerous injuries throughout his career, Vickery has been in top form each time he's returned to club rugby and has earned his place in many an England side. His international honours include captaining England to victory in 2002 against Argentina, being a vital part of England's Rugby World Cup winning team in 2003, taking full part in the 2004 RBS Six Nations and being named by Brian Ashton as England Captain for all games up to and including the 2007 World Cup Final, which continued through to the 2008 Six Nations.
He's now won 73 caps and also has two Lions tours under his belt. In his first, to Australia in 2001, he appeared in all three Tests. The second tour was in South Africa, in 2009, where he played in the first and third Tests.
