Adding further fire power to their squad, London Wasps announced the arrival of prop Sakaria Taulafo, who signs with the Club until 2011. Sakaria, or Zak as he known to his new team mates, arrived at the Club in December following a strong season with the Tasman Makos in the Air New Zealand NPC which, for the 26 year old, resulted in a call up to the Samoan National team in the recently completed European end-of-year tour. A product of the Nelson College 1st XV, Zak represented Samoa U19 at the 2001 World Cup and played for Nelson Bays from 2003'2005. Living in Nelson but originally from Asau, Savaii, Samoa, Zak arrived in England on Monday, has already begun training at Twyford Avenue, and will feature in the match 23 to face Newcastle Falcons at Adams Park on Sunday. Having fully embraced the hard work ethos at the Club in such a short period of time, Zak is looking forward to his chance to make his mark at Wasps. 'I see Wasps as the Manchester United of European rugby with a long history of success both in the UK and Europe. I sat down and looked at where I wanted to be as a player in five years and decided that it was a realistic goal to become one of the best props in the world that can play both sides of the scrum. I love winning and playing for Wasps will give me the chance to experience scrummaging against some of the best props in the world. I have worked so hard to get here and now I am ready to work even harder to take my game to another level. 'The set up at Wasps is world class with some of the best rugby players in the world. I was excited at the goals Tony (Hanks, Director of Rugby), had for the team and my individual game. The fitness trainers, medical staff, along with the technical coaches are excellent, and for me personally the chance to work with Trevor (Woodman, Forwards coach) is going to be awesome. I would like to give special mention to Tasman coaches Bevan Cadwallader, Kieran Keane and Head Strength and Conditioning Coach Simon Thomas, who have been fantastic in providing me with a platform to achieve my childhood dream of playing international rugby for Samoa. 'My partner Nikki and daughter Pene are really looking forward to London life and being a part of a very family orientated Club like Wasps.' On the news, London Wasps Director of Rugby Tony Hanks said,' We are pleased to welcome Zak, his partner Nikki and daughter Pene to the Club. Zak has been involved in the Tasman set up, part of the Crusaders franchise, over the last few years and this season was ever present in their Air New Zealand Cup side, resulting in a deserved call up to Manu Samoa. 'For us it is great to bring a player of Zak's quality in this season while we are experiencing some injuries in the front row, but even more so to be able to secure him for next season as he signs an 18 month contract. He is a big powerful prop who is mobile around the field and he will be a great edition to the squad.'
