One of Wasps new signings in the summer of 2006, Mark continues to add to the stiff competition for the No9 shirt this season, competing with the likes of England Sevens star Simon Amor and Irish international Eoin Reddan for the scrum half slot.
He has made a good account of himself thus far however, having been a member of Wasps Middlesex Sevens winning squad in August, and turning in some impressive early performances in pre-season and for the A team.
Mark's pedigree was clear before joining the club however, as he has represented Scotland at U18, U19 and U21, captaining the U19s and U21s and picking up the Scottish Young Player of the Year award in 2004. He is also no stranger to having to fight for his place in the team, as at previous club Leeds Tykes he had to battle off the challenges of All Black Justin Marshall and highly rated youngster Danny Care to win his 22 appearances over two seasons, in which he scored 4 tries.
He is a player with strength and a good pass at his disposal, and therefore the young Scot suits Wasps' style of play, proving this throughout 2006/07 as he made more and more appearances in the 1XV. None more important than the Heineken Cup 2007, running on in the second half to secure his winners medal which he has since passed on to his Mum, Dad and Brother David ' who he credits for their continued support and influence throughout his career.
Mark list his rugby heroes as Gary Armstrong, Scotland scrum half and Rob Howley, former Wasps scrum half who he has in part modeled his game on.
Away from the pitch Mark is a motorbike enthusiast who currently rides a Suzuki SV650 Sport. At a slightly slower pace he also enjoys walking his dog Stella, a two year old Rottweiler.
Having played for Scotland in the 2007 Churchill Cup Mark has reignited his international rugby career and is 100% focused on rugby on the domestic and international stage for 2007/08 'a call up to Scotland A again this season a testament to his continued hard work.
His claim to fame, away from the beautiful game is an impressive ability to rap 8.5 minutes of the Sugar Hill Gang's Rappers Delight - which is 14.5 minutes long in total - and if Marks determination on the pitch is anything to go by he will have it nailed in no time.
