Born in Roehampton, Richard Birkett started playing rugby at Millfield School and began his professional career at Wasps in 1999 having come through the Club's youth systems.
A London Wasps stalwart at this point, Birkett made his 250th appearance for Wasps last season, which was also his testimonial season, joining a rare group of players at the Club to do so.
He played an integral part in the team that won the Premiership finals in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2008 and he also featured in the victorious Heineken Cup final in 2004.
Birkett's representative honours include England A.
