Joe WORSLEY is rightfully rated as the best utility back row forward in the country, equally at home in any of the three positions. This ability forced him into the England World Cup Squad in 1999, an ideal bench replacement, following an impressive season with the club. And while he may lack the explosive thrust off the scrum, with his long stride he is deceptively swift and many an opposing back has shown their surprise as Joe has overhauled them.
He joined Wasps at 16 and two years later set the record as the youngest ever to play for the England U 21 team. Last term he quickly settled into an exciting back row partnership with mentor Lawrence Dallaglio and Paul Volley. Joe was deemed unlucky to miss a place in the Lions squad but he performed well with England against the US and Canada and has now won 12 full England caps.
Fortunately, he stopped growing in his late teens by which time he had reached six-and-a-half feet. Always an exciting young talent, Nigel is one among many who are convinced Joe Worsley is set to be become an England regular for years to come.
