London Wasps record first home win at Adams Park

London Wasps playing in their first game at Adams Park recorded a nail biting 33-27 win over Irish side Connacht.

The game was a close affair with the lead changing ever few minutes. Alex King secured the first points of the day with a penalty but it was Connacht that scored the first try on Adams Park when fullback Gavin Duffy broke away and crossed for his sides first of three tries.

The match was a hard fought battle with both sides struggling to dominate. London Wasps flanker Paul Volley got the sides first try late in the first half, King easily converted the conversion to level the scores at 10 all at the break.

In the second half the London Wasps backline spearheaded by Josh Lewsey and Stuart Abbott took the game to Connacht and were rewarded when Lewsey dotted down for London Wasps second try.

Connacht speedster Ted Robinson scored two tries, one from deep in there half and with Eric Elwood converting all his side’s conversions it looked as if the men from Ireland might cause an upset.

Director of Rugby Warren Gatland brought on the substitutes with about fifteen minutes left and with Paul Volley getting his second and Dafydd Lewis London Wasps fourth try, the first win at Adams Park was secured for the “Men in BlackĀ”.

This was London Wasps first of three pre-season matches before the start of the Zurich Premiership.


For Connacht two tries were scored by Ted Robinson while fullback Gavin Duffy scored the very first try on Adams Park. Flyhalf Eric Elwood was successful with three conversions and two penalties.
