James Haskell will captain London Wasps in Thursday night’s Amlin Challenge Cup game against Bayonne at Adams Park, kick off 19:45.

London Wasps are also boosted by the return of a number of players from injury.

Stephen Jones returns to the starting line-up after more than two months on the sidelines, while Tim Payne starts in the front row after a month out.

Tom Palmer starts in the second row having been ruled out of the trip to Bayonne with a calf injury and Billy Vunipola is also named in the starting 15 after not travelling to France last weekend.

Elliot Daly starts at fullback in the place of captain Hugo Southwell, who isn’t included in the squad after suffering a hamstring strain in France at the weekend.

Christian Wade and Tom Varndell retain their places on the wings, as do Chris Bell and Andrea Masi, who once again pair up in the centres.

Joe Simpson starts at scrum half with Jones starting at 10.

In the pack, Payne gets his start and joins Tom Lindsay and Zak Taulafo to make up the front three with Phil Swainston ruled out through injury this weekend.

Palmer returns to partner James Cannon at lock, while the back row consists of Sam Jones, Billy Vunipola and Haskell, who skippers the side.

Thursday night’s fixture is set up as the crunch game of Pool Three, with the first and second placed sides in the group meeting for the second time in a week, having drawn 13 all at the Stade Jean Dauger on Saturday.

Wasps head the pool by a point and a win would put them in the driving seat going into the final two rounds in the New Year.

Director of Rugby Dai Young said “I was delighted with the commitment shown by the team in France last weekend and I am looking for more of the same tomorrow night.”

“It’s a win or bust tie for Bayonne who come to Adams Park knowing they have to get something from the game but it’s no different for us really, as if we want to control our own destiny in this competition then we’ve got to win. “
