A third minute extra time penalty saw that we exited the Powergen Cup at the fourth round phase. Having outplayed Newcastle in all departments it was a killer blow when Wilkinson kicked a drop goal to take the game 24-22. Alex King lead from the front with a superior kicking game combined with some devastating breaks which breached the Newcastle defence and put them on the back foot. Unfortunately Alex had to be replaced through injury and our consistency and pattern faltered.
Newcastle leading 21-19, up stepped Kenny Logan with a 55m penalty which he struck with ease to make the score 22-21 to Wasps. A happy trip home looked on the cards but Wilkinson ruined the party.
