Another disappointing away result when in reality, the game was well within our grasp. The result rested with one man Paul Grayson and his kicking abilities. When a team has a quality kicker we must not give naïve penalties in a kickable range and unfortunately on Saturday our patience in defence was not what it should have been.
After a fantastic start with a Mark Denney try we didn’t capitalise on this early lead instead we sat back and let them run at us. And we all know we play our best rugby on the total offensive and on our day no team can cope with us.
Our kicking game was not at the standard it should be with two drop kick’s missed by Alex King who normally executes these with ease, and one penalties missed by Kenny Logan, points went begging.
The defence as a whole is very solid and Northampton felt the full force of the BLACK WALL, but spilt ball and inaccurate passing from Martyn Wood at times put us under unnecessary pressure. This caused Josh Lewsey to fumble the ball on our own try line, which was pounced on by the saints, which lead to their only try. The final score was 23-10.
