Wasps 58 Rotherham 3

Zurich Premiership

1 April, 2001. Loftus Road, KO 3pm

It took only two minutes for London Wasps to start the onslaught against bottom-of-the-table Rotherham, with an 18-metre penalty from winger Kenny Logan.

Keeping up the pressure two minutes later, Logan got to a pass from centre Fraser Waters, put the ball down and made his own conversion.

Carrying on with the attack, prop Will Green placed the ball over in the 10th minute, but Logan's conversion attempt hit the post.

On 16 minutes, referee Tony Spreadbury awarded a penalty try for the home side, which Logan converted.

Then three minutes later, lock Simon Shaw picked up a loose ball to run over and Logan again was on target with his kick.

Rotherham finally eased some of the pressure when they got on the score-board themselves in the 27th minute, centre Mike Umaga converting a penalty from inside Wasps' 22.

In the 34th minute, winger Shane Roiser made a 40-yard sprint down the right to score.

Paul Sampson added to the damage in the 39th minute when the full-back placed the ball over, but Logan's conversion attempt sailed wide.

With Wasps leading 39-3 at half time, Rotherham fought back bravely and in the 52nd minute the home side were reduced to 14 men with hooker Phil Greening being sin-binned.

But normal service was resumed when Logan added another try on the hour when he pounced onto the ball close to the line and then added the conversion for good measure.

The second player to enter the sin-bin was Rotherham lock Dan Cook following a skirmish in the 65th minute.

Three minutes later, Logan chalked up his third score, which he then converted and two minutes after that, Sampson went over to record his second score.

But the afternoon belonged to Scottish international Logan who finished the day with a personal tally of three tries, five conversions, and a penalty.
