J.P. Morgan Asset Management Premiership Rugby 7s Cup for U14s teams

The inaugural J.P. Morgan Asset Management Premiership Rugby 7s Cup was held on Sunday 9th October 2011 at RAF Halton for U14s grassroots teams. The Festival took place during the morning before our Aviva Premiership fixture against Bath Rugby was played at Adams Park Stadium in the afternoon. The Winners and Runner-Up were presented with their trophies on the Adams Park Stadium pitch by London Wasps players Riki Flutey and Elliot Daly and formed the Tunnel of Honour to welcome the London Wasps and Bath Rugby teams on to the pitch.

Christ's Hospital School from Sussex were the winning team beating Wallingford RFC U14s in an exciting Final. Their players were presented with the cup and medals at RAF Halton by London Wasps' Richard Haughton. As part of their prize Christ's Hospital School have also been invited to attend the J.P. Morgan Asset Management Premiership Rugby 7s Series Final in 2012.

The ground-breaking 7s Festivals were hosted at the 12 Premiership Rugby clubs and were the first time that the Premiership Rugby clubs have been involved in hosting junior 7s festivals. There is no doubt this gave valuable experience of the 7s game to young players, helping in their rugby development and we hope to see some future Olympic 7s players emerging!

Each of the regional cup winners have been invited to the J.P. Morgan Asset Management Series Final 2012, which is due to take place in August 2012. The winners will receive 15 free tickets for the players to be able to soak up the atmosphere of the J.P. Morgan Asset Management Series Final 2012.

J.P. MORGAN ASSET MANAGEMENT PREMIERSHIP RUGBY 7S CUP


Competition Regulations and Tournament Organisation

1. The J.P. Morgan Asset Management Premiership Rugby 7s Cup ("the Tournament") will be organized by Premiership Rugby and subject to Regulations 13 and 14 below will be played under the Laws of the Game of Rugby Football - Standard set of variations appropriate to the seven-a-side game as framed by the International Rugby Board and adopted by the Rugby Football Union.
2. The management of each Tournament is delegated to the designated Premiership Rugby Club hosting a Tournament and shall be run in accordance with RFU Regulation 10 and these competition regulations.
3. Subject to 6 below the Tournament shall be open to clubs nominated by the designated Premiership Rugby Club’s Community Department.
4. The designated Premiership Rugby Club must obtain permission from its Constituent Body to host the tournament in accordance with RFU Regulations 10.2.4(f) and 15.6.
5. Any playing disputes or transgressions (including breaches of these regulations) during a tournament will be dealt with by the designated tournament manager at the designated Premiership Club hosting the Tournament title in the first instance. If the dispute cannot be resolved by the designated tournament manager the dispute will be forwarded to Premiership Rugby.
6. Each tournament shall comprise of at least 8 teams as selected in accordance with 3 above.
7. All players must be under 14 years of age at Midnight on the 31 August/1 September of the start of the Season to be eligible for the Tournament.
8. Each team shall comprise 7 players selected from a squad of a maximum of 12 players who must all be registered with the organiser of the Tournament before the start of play.
9. A team which can only field 7 or less than 7 players because of injuries may borrow players or replacements (registered pursuant to 1 above) but only from a team which has completed its tournament fixtures for that specific day only. A team which borrows a player or players must take the field with all their own available and uninjured players before using the borrowed players.
10. The tournament format shall be set by the designated tournament manager and shall ensure
a. each participating team plays at least 2 matches; and
b. there is both a Cup and Plate competition.

The Cup Final winner shall be the Tournament winner.

11. The duration of all games including the Final will be 7 minutes each way with a one minute interval.
12. In the knock-out stages if after 7 minutes of play each way the scores are level, there shall be a period of extra time between the teams of 2 minutes. During this period the first team to score points shall be the winner (“golden point”). The period of extra time shall commence following a coin toss to determine the pitch end and which team shall kick-off this period. After this period if no points have been scored a coin toss will determine the winner.

Playing Rules

13. A team may change its players during each game on a "roll on roll off" basis. The new player entering the field of play can only join it with the permission of the referee and when the player leaving the field of play has crossed the touch line.
14. Restarts (post scoring) shall be done by the scoring team in accordance with the IRB Laws of the Game – Sevens variations.
15. Each team must supply a touch judge for each game.
16. When a player has been temporarily suspended (Yellow Card), the player's period of suspension will be for a period of 2 minutes. When a player has been permanently suspended (Red Card), the player may not play for the remainder of the Tournament.
