Mini & Youth Training on Sundays from 10am to 12pm
(14.4 miles to Adams Park)
Over the past few years, Chinnor RFC has continued to develop its strength in depth which saw the club gain promotion in 2006 to the National League Division Three South as the YOUNGEST club EVER to gain promotion to this level.
In 2008 - 2009 we were narrowly relegated from National Division Three and look forward to the 2009 - 2010 season and the opportunity to challenge for promotion. Jason Bowers (Head Coach), Tim Holmes (Backs Coach) and Adam Seymour (Fitness Coach) provide a well-balanced Coaching Team and look forward to seeing you at Kingsey Road sometime during the season. Our other senior teams play in various leagues; Canterbury Shield Division 2 (2nd XV), Bucks/Berks and Oxon Premier A (3rd XV) and Bucks/Berks & Oxon League 2 South (4th XV).
Most of the 1st XV squad come through the ranks of the junior and senior teams as a result of the excellent coaching available at all levels within the club. Ex-Chinnor players feature also at the highest level in English rugby; Dave Seymour (Sale Sharks), Tom Varndell (London Wasps) and Bob Baker (London Wasps).
Chinnor boasts one of the best Mini and Junior setups in the country with the Under 17 team reaching the England UK final in 2005. We are also proud to have 2 England Deaf internationals in our Senior teams (Matt Woodward and Rob Hill who are regular members of the England Deaf Rugby squad). Last, we should never forget our Ladies team (The Chinnor Chicks) have continued to impress with recent England Ladies honours for members of the Senior Ladies team.
Chinnor Rugby Club remains a strong and well respected club with great success at Mini and Junior level and good quality rugby played at every senior level.
In the 2009/2010 season we placed great emphasis on developing local players and creating a financial platform that would allow us to compete back in the National leagues. Our 2nd XV generates much needed talent for the 1st's and provides a great breeding ground for future 1st Xv players.
Our taste of life at National 3 convinced us that we should always aim for the standard of play at this level. We are convinced that, unless we strive to improve, we will start to go backwards. Complacency is the first step towards failure - something that this well supported club will not contemplate.
We base our 1st team squad as much as possible on locally produced talent. We will develop a better local scouting scheme so that players at other local clubs are attracted to play at a higher level with us.
Where the first team squad are deficient in a particular position, we may need to consider foreign players. However, this time around we did not trust to well written CVs that promise perhaps more than is possible. We used trusted former player's knowledge to guide us. We also set up a player exchange scheme so that some of our promising players enjoyed the experience of playing abroad in return for players useful to us.
These initiatives have obviously been successful and now we look forward to returning to the National leagues stronger and wiser.
